Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Central Asian Regional Glaciological Centre under the auspices of UNESCO
On June 14, 2023, a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Central Asian Regional Glaciological Centre under the auspices of UNESCO was held in Almaty, which included on a permanent basis - the Director (Officer in Charge) of the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan - Representative of the Director-General of UNESCO, Mr. Piric Amir; Leading Researcher, Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences - Representative from the Russian Federation, Mr. Nosenko Gennadiy Andreyevich; Director-General of the Centre of hydrometeorological service of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Representative from the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr. Khabibullayev Sherzod Khabibullaxojayevich; Head of Tien Shan High Mountain Research Center of the Institute of Water Problems and Hydropower of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic - Representative from the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Satylkanov Rysbek Abylaevich

Director of the Centre Balykbayev T.O. and scientific supervisor of the Centre, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Seversky Igor Vasilyevich made presentations on the activities of the Centre..
Director of the Centre Balykbayev T.O. presented to the members of the Board of Governors a report on financial activities, the development program of the Centre for 2023-2029 and other internal regulatory documents that were considered and approved by the members of the Board of Governors.
The participants of the event discussed topical issues in the field of glaciology, the Uzbek side made recommendations on the need to actively involve Uzbek scientists in conducting joint expeditions in the mountains of Central Asia, from the head of the Tien Shan High Mountain Research Center of the Institute of Water Problems and Hydropower of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic Satylkanov R.A., a proposal was received for joint training of young specialists with their involvement in scientific expeditions and training in practice, carrying out snow surveys on the Tien Shan glaciers.
All participants of the meeting expressed their unanimous opinion on the need to continue joint work and research of the Centre in the field of glaciology and climate changes, which lead to the melting of glaciers and, as a result to the danger of a decrease in fresh water reserves.
